Yesterday morning we boarded our two private buses and headed to the Cuenca Mini Golf Club. We were all full of anticipation of what was waiting for us.
Upon arrival we were greeted with delicious bloody mary’s, green beer and rum punch. With drinks in hand everyone headed towards their favorite activity. Of course, mini golf was very popular. The bocci ball, corn hole and driving range had lots of activity, too. Many participated in the “closest to the hole” competition at the driving range. We paid $5 for 5 tries and the pot was split between the winner and HDiC. It was pretty entertaining as most people were not golfers. Spectators cheered us on while some of us needed numerous tries to make contact with the ball.
Once we smelled the BBQ we headed towards the dining area to see what was cooking. The Roux Bistro (Abby and Mike) and San Sebas Cafe (Lindsay and Adam) were busy getting our delicious burger lunch ready. Lisa was busy filling orders at the bar. Food and drink in hand we were ready to enjoy the thick, juicy burgers with all the trimming and the sides of coleslaw, macaroni salad and assorted chips.
Yummy baked goods were raffled off after lunch. Not all of the raffle prizes were sweets…one was a huge squash that weighed about 20 lbs (I think) and a delicious home-baked sour dough bread. Abby was the recipient of the squash. I will be curious to see if it appears on the menu at the Roux.
The corn hole tournament participants were very spirited to say the least. Everyone was hoping to win the last certificate for a delicious pie. Having played all day most people took the 3:00PM bus back to El Centro. Twenty of us remained to just hang out and help clean up.
What a grand day!!!!! We had so much fun and the weather was perfect. Could not have been a better St. Patrick’s Day.
Did I mention we have funds for another clinic!!!!!!!!!!!! Whoot Whoot
The biggest THANK YOU to San Sebas Cafe and Roux Bistro for planning this entire event, giving up their only day off and making such a wonderful donation to HDiC.
Many thanks to all the people that donated gifts for the raffle.
You are all the best!
